Though the Te Moana Road cafe lies in the path of the proposed expressway, it's service as usual for Melt's many customers, owner Chrisy Richmond says. "We know the expressway will happen but we're carrying on as usual until the very day someone tells us we can't." The restaurant will continue to serve delicious cabinet foot, tasty lunches and memorable dinners. Chrisy says the menu changes regularly and has something for everyone from full-day breakfasts to dishes from cuisine styles around the world. Special favourites include the homemade chowder and the lambs fry. "We would never take that off the menu -- it's so popular." Melt serves dinner three nights a week, on Monday, Friday and Saturday, and on Monday night diners can choose roast specials as well as a la carte menu dishes. With its attachment to the market garden next door, there is an emphasis on fresh salads and the jams, pickles and relishes which are all made on the premises from fresh ingredients. A range of house wines at very reasonable prices by the glass or bottle, make a perfect accompaniment to an excellent meal. On warm days, customers can sit outdoors in the sheltered garden and when the weather is cooler, the ambience inside the restaurant is warm. If you are looking for a venue for a small wedding or function, Melt is ideal. The only restaurant on the long road through Waikanae, Melt at 150 Te Moana Road has easy parking and ramps with handrails to the entrance, making access easy to the custom-designed restaurant. Melt will host a special event on Sunday, August 14, featuring the Ukes of Hazzard, a ukuleleband also featuring mandolins, harmonica, bass guitar and violins.
